The League City Oak Tree Festival has been postponed until the weekend of October 4th and 5th. If you can help at any time at the booth contact Jeanie Bond.

What: Booth at the Oak Tree Festival

When: October 4 and October 5

Where: League City

Contact Jeanie Bond to help at the booth or more information.

We have several things coming up. The three Campaign Headquarters in the County are in need of volunteers to give a few hours a week. Mostly all that is required is to sit at the offices and keep the doors unlocked so folks can come in. Also please stop by as often as you can (if you cannot volunteer as staff) to see what is needed. The Clubs and the Party are all strapped for funds this year and we will need to use as many or our free helpers (that be us) as possible.

All the candidates have campaign materials and it is up to us to find ways to get this information into the hands of our neighbors. I have a few volunteers in my precinct that help me put push cards and tri-folds on doors. Perhaps you can do this in your neighborhood or at least on your own street.

Call your Precinct Chair and offer to call folks who voted in the Democratic Primary to tell them of the Headquarters close to you. When I call my precinct, I get thank yous. We worked hard to get new Precinct Chairs so use them.

Fired up. Ready to go!

Do you have yard signs and bumper stickers? If not you are not doing your part. These are available at the HQ's and folks will ask where you got them. Send them to the HQ's.

Click on the Group site and check the Calendar regularly. We don't want to miss anything this year.

Obama yard signs will be available at five dollars each. When those are sold we will use that money to order more. Please, if you know anyone who can get us a large number of Obama yard signs, send them our way. Our local and Countywide candidates have free signs at the HQ’s. Do you have at least one bumper sticker on your car? They do no damage and only reinforce our candidates' appeal.

------------------

What: One Day Phone Bank for Chris Bell
When: Tuesday, September 2, 5pm to 9pm-two shifts 5pm to 7pm and 7pm-9pm
Where: Galveston HQ and if we have enough volunteers I will keep the Texas City Office open as well.

Please say yes and let us know who will get on the schedule. 1 hr or more will be appreciated.
E-mail me and I will help get the info to the schedule. We have empty phones everywhere. We need folks to start helping with phone calls.

Keep Thursday night the 28th open. A trip to Galveston will be worth your while. A party is planned at The Spot on the Seawall for the Acceptance Speech. I usually don’t attend such events but The Spot has the best hamburgers and onion rings around. Large screen TV. Democratic bumper stickers lining the Seawall will be very impressive. “Partieeeee!” All Democrats are now supporting Barack Obama. Now let’s prove it. The press will be informed about this so we need lots of Democrats to be there.

Chris Bell for Texas Senate needs you. We need Chris Bell. If you can call free to Galveston this weekend, contact Adrienne Fischer at (713) 667-8990 or adrienne@chrisbell.com. To vote for Chris Bell, the straight ticket won’t work so we need to let the folks in Senate District 17 know how to cast their ballot for the other new Texas Senator. Joe Jaworski and Chris Bell for Galveston County. The Republicans last election didn’t know how to vote for Sekula-Gibbs, so let’s not make that stupid Republican mistake. Freddie Poor needs helpers this Saturday, August 23, for his Hometown Kick-off in Santa Fe. Most our candidates will be there as well. Volunteers need to be there by 1:30 PM.

Note: The Republicans are working Highway 6 very hard as demonstrated by their massive turnout for The Good Ole Days. We don't have to live near there to help win this area. It is imperative that we win Highway 6. If you know anyone living in Hitchcock, Algoa, Santa Fe, or any place near Hwy. 6, call them and tell them to meet you there for the PeeWee Bowen Band and free Cajun food and come yourselves.

MAINLAND NORTH AND SOUTH CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS GRAND OPENINGS THIS WEEKEND

Please, We need your help this Saturday, August 16.  Come by the Campaign Headquarters openings early to help. We need you. If you can’t help with the opening, come by to get valuable information about what the Democrats need before November. Next week is the National Convention so we need to use that time to make the biggest impression we can.

All Three HQ’s need as many volunteers to keep the doors open as much as possible. The volunteers working will need to take breaks once in awhile so an hour or two given by you can help.

The Galveston Election Headquarters will be very important this year. It is located in the Democratic Party's base. This is where we win or lose these November elections. All the Headquarters around the County will need many volunteers and lots of supplies. Help near your area or anywhere you want. Just help, please. Plan now to help with your Time, Talent, and Treasure. Information will follow on Galveston, Texas City, and North County. We will be using volunteers wherever possible to keep costs down.

Do you want to become a Deputy Voter Registrar for Galveston County? A representative of the Voter Registration office will be at the North Galveston County Democrats Club to train you and swear you in.  Wednesday June 25, 2008 7:00 PM, at the Dickinson Senior Center - corner of 28th St and Hwy 3 in Dickinson. Special Guest: Freddie Poor, Candidate for Galveston County Sheriff.

This will be our last chance to vote for Rick Noriega for the PAC for Change. By Wednesday midnight — TONIGHT, June 25 — we must have clicked his name to get him extra name recognition and a check. Al Franken won the DFA contest so lets bring this one home to Texas.

**10:00 am, we will need help at the park to help set up a popup tent and help with a 4X8 blue Obama sign and table for registering voters. We will be stressing the need to vote a straight Democratic Ticket. At the event we will make sure folks realize they can't vote for Obama unless they are registered.
You don't have to be a registrar to help.

This is a “Fighting for Galveston County” effort. We need to set up a phone bank at the end of the week. Details are not yet available. Will you be willing if time permits to help and details will be given later? We need to know now so we can start a list of folks who would be willing. Please call me at (409) 655-5731 or e-mail me with your name and phone number so I can call you.

We need someone to head up a phone team to call our volunteers without e-mail. I will start getting the phone numbers together. It will be the phone team's responsibility to call everyone on the list one time only, whenever a new listing is posted to the Action List. We have too many folks being left out who want to help. Will you head it up? Will you make some calls? I am stretched too thin to do this myself.

We are registered in the Texas City Juneteenth Parade, Galveston 4th of July Parade (we were invited) and we will be in the Galveston Juneteenth Parade (we were invited) as well. Please make your plans to show our voters we are part of their community.

We will need some folks to sit at a table at the park in Galveston on June 19. Political Information Distribution and another for Voter Registration.  More information on these later.

May 14, 2008

Galveston County Executive Committee Meeting, Thursday, May 15, 2008 6:30 PM, Steelworkers Hall, 2327 Texas Ave, Texas City: Canvass the runoff vote. Installation of new Precinct Chairs (the most important volunteer position in the Party). If you have given Loretta Davis your name to become a Precinct Chair or if you want to be a precinct chair, you would be advised to attend this meeting. Several Precincts have more than one person applying for the responsibility, and those present will probably be looked on more favorably by the Committee (limited time, be prompt). Anyone may attend any Democratic function or meeting. Our Party is always open. Only Precincts without Chairs will be considered.

May 5, 2008

If you are free Wednesday night, here is a good chance to learn how you can help the Democratic Party in many different ways.

What: Galveston County Democrats Club
“Becoming a Precinct Chair or Organizer”
When: May 7, 7:00 pm. Come early if you want to sit in on the Executive Committee
that starts at 6:15 pm
Where: Boilermakers Training Hall (inside open gate)
I-45 exit 10 northbound (flags and sign) before the Armory

We need Precinct Chairs for half the county. We need organizers and helpers everywhere.
If you have a Chair, offer to help even if you don’t like that Precinct Chair. This next Election is more important than any one individual. If that Chair doesn’t want your help go out on your own to do what is needed. But always let your chair know what you are doing to avoid conflict or duplications. Don’t be deterred. You can help without being a Chair.

My personal experience
I lived in a precinct for years and had never been contacted in any way by my Precinct Chair.
I asked around and no one had. I wanted to get active. I asked at clubs and any meeting, I could find out about, and the term Precinct Organizer came up. I started putting out democratic information with my label on it.

Johnny Shelton
Precinct Organizer
Precinct 1 _ _

My intention was to run against my chair and get my precinct organized. He moved. I became Precinct Chair.
I later moved and left my precinct in good hands.
I had no precinct chair where I moved, so now I am Democratic Precinct Chair 347. More importantly I am willing to do some work for Galveston County, Texas, and the United States.

DATE LINE:  Tuesday, April 18, 2008:

A special thanks to Commissioner Bryan Lamb. He sponsored the booth at the County Fair and got the best spot on the fairgrounds for our candidates. When you see him next, thank him. When he runs again, we will remember.

This may seem a strange request for volunteers. Easiest volunteer job ever, attend a BBQ. We have statewide candidates coming to Galveston County and we need lots of folks to show up so we can continue to attract candidates from other areas.

What: BBQ
When: Saturday, April 26, 2:00-6:00 PM
Where: Davied and Jeanie Bond’s yard, 11602 Strom Rd, Texas City
If you can help set up on Saturday morning, please join us at 9:00 AM. Several tents in case of rain - will have event anyway.  More info and map

Coming to the Bond BBQ:
Rick Noriega, Candidate for US Senate; Sam Houston, Candidate for Supreme Court, Place 7;
Jim Sharp
, Candidate for 1st Court of Appeals, Place 3; Bert Moser, Candidate for 1st Court of Appeals, Place 4; Leslie C. Taylor, Candidate for 1st Court of Appeals, Place 5; Laura Ewing, Candidate for State Board of Education, District 7; Joe Jaworski, Candidate for State Senator, District 11.

DATE LINE:  Tuesday, April 1, 2008:

Thank you, to all those Action List Volunteers that worked so hard to produce such a great Convention.

Jeanie and David Bond have outdone themselves with the list of Candidates attending their
annual BBQ. Everyone should attend so we look good to statewide candidates and they come back.

Next parade I know of is Cinco de Mayo, Saturday, May 3, in the morning. Please save the morning to ride the float. If we get a booth I will let you know. Last year's booth was a lot of fun.

I realize everyone is interested in who our official Delegates are to State. When that list becomes available I will make sure we Action List members get it. I was on the nominations committee and I guarantee the process was hard fought and the outcome was as fair as we could get it. We tried to include some of every category the State Party recognizes. Because of the great turnout and wonderful participation and interest we had difficult choices with such a limited number of at large delegates. If you want to be a part, offer to volunteer at the State Convention. If you have complaints about the process go and attend so as to get a better understanding and then get involved and work for the changes you feel are needed. We do not need any actions that will split the Democrats in such a critical junction in our County, State, and Nation.

Democrats can win big everywhere if we stick together and overcome our perceived injustices.

Democrats United for Victory.

NEXT PARADE!
What: Cinco de Mayo Parade, Texas City
When: Saturday May 3, 8:30AM decorating, 9AM Lineup, 10AM Parade starts
Where: 600 block of 3rd Ave. N. facing 6th St. We are usually near the corner facing 6th St. First 5 volunteers there can wear one of our new sombreros. Note: Last election 40% of Hispanics went to Bush. Many are angry with the Republicans. A big turnout from us will welcome them home to the Democratic Party. To reach out, please come out. Let me know if you can help.

We will need help with setup and decorations for the County Party fundraiser on May 29. Details will come later. We might need help with mail outs or whatever is requested.

If you have never attended a club meeting, check out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ActionList/cal for a meeting place/time that is good for you. This is a great way to volunteer for events. It does not cost to attend any meeting so shop around until you find where you are comfortable and your choice is an active club that asks you to do something.

DATE LINE:  Friday, March 28, 2008

Please anyone/everyone that can help tonight with the setup for the Senate District/County Convention tonight please show up at
7:00PM at the La Marque High School Auditorium 300 Vauthier, La Marque.

Myself I will need about 8 people to help put together the poles with the precinct numbers and attach them to the chairs where people will know where to sit. This is in addition to other jobs.

I personally need about 4 delegates Saturday that sorta know what they are doing to help me circulate sign up sheets for the Action List. This is our volunteers best chance to pick up helpers for the next two years.

From Lloyd Criss, Galveston County Democratic Party Chair:

As you know the registration of delegates and alternates on Saturday will be a massive job and we will need proper order, space and time to get the job done. Therefore the only people we can allow into the High School on Saturday morning between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. are party staff and duly elected convention delegates and alternates.
At 10:00 a.m. hopefully we should have all of our delegates and alternates seated and then we will open the doors to the general public. The public is welcome to observe, but they will not be allowed to participate or disrupt the meeting in any way. With this email I am requesting your group’s full cooperation.
Lloyd Criss

This is the most important issue For Democrats in November:  Click for John McCain's chart-topping single, "Bomb Iran."   If John McCain can joke and sing about WAR, I wonder how he forgot the horrors he went through. 95 more years in Iraq.  Bomb Iran.  Syria is not far behind.

Please show up in force [for the Candlelight Vigil this Saturday night.] The bigger the crowd  the more an impact on the voting public. We will have newspaper coverage so it is imperative that we don’t look like no one cares. Last year we had about 60 people. Let's go for over 100. We have sound.

I have been asked by several people to notify you that the Galveston County Democratic Party has placed someone on the mail-in voter verification committee that is supporting a Republican. The Party knew this and was asked not to place this person in a possession of Official Standing. The party did it anyway. The perception is that we are not sincere in our backing of our candidates. The Republicans must be laughing as we weaken our entire slate.

Thank you all so much from Mrs. Warren.
The water lines to several of the bases are cut or poisoned on a regular basis. Snipers wait for repair crews. Another fact we don’t get from the Administration. Special thanks to our friends: Latonia Wilson, Bryan Lamb, and Jim Schweitzer (none are up for re-election).

I will send photos of goods for troops soon.

DATE LINE 02/11/08 — Laura Warren says: "Thank you all for donating (and ongoing donations) of water, food, supplies and postage for my sons' troops. I will mail it all off, and I have sent him an email to tell him that supplies are on the way!!!  I don't know how to express how much this help is appreciated by these boys and girls and their parents. We as parents feel many emotions but helplessness is one of the worst and when such kindness of coworkers, friends and strangers is extended to our children it definitely eases that helplessness!!"

THANK YOU AGAIN FROM:
SSGT BRADY R. WARREN 'S
MOTHER: Laura Warren

Shipping expenses are a problem.
My new phone number is listed at the end of messages:  (409) 655-5731.

All volunteers are encouraged to attend their precinct Caucus and become a delegate for their Presidential Candidate. The Caucus is held at 7:15 March 4 (election night) at the precinct polling places not at early voting locations unless they are the same. I have added the polling places to the files section of the [Yahoo] group site. Bring friends to help you become a delegate.

DATE LINE 02/07/08 — We were unable to get a shipment out today so we will be sending one out near the middle of next week. Please take some time this weekend and get some stuff for SSGT Brady R Warren and his Unit. Susan Henry is trying to get the Daily News to cover this.

DATE LINE 02/06/08 COMPASSION AND HELP NEEDED – We're working to get a shipment out to Iraq by this Friday, February 8, to answer a plea from one of our military personnel in Iraq [scroll down to DATE LINE 02/03/08 to read original request].  Here is your chance to help correct a deplorable situation.  We have a North County, Galveston, and Central drop off point for things for the Troops. Galveston Island has had a much better response than the rest of us and we thank them. Let's try and have a shipment ready by Friday afternoon with some more to follow. Having served 15 months myself, in an Arab country, I know how alienated one can feel without being shot at.

In the name of all Democrats we are gathering stuff for a shipment to some desperate Members of our military in Iraq. We need an overwhelming response. You can bring things to the Galveston County Democrats Club training session and meeting Wednesday. You can drop things on the list off at my home at 3408 Oleander Texas City, TX (off of 34th north of Palmer). If you will agree to be a drop-off point please let me know. I have added pictures of our folks on the group site. Both Martin Luther King parades were a great success. We had much fun. Remember you can add Democratic event pictures on your own to the group site.

If you know of Fairs or Rodeos or gatherings of any kind, please let the ActionList know and I will see if we can get someone to get us in it or at least we can attend and wear Democratic attire or pass out literature. We can have booths and tables anywhere if it is not too expensive. We can have voter registration most anywhere. It is time to get really active and produce votes.
Love you Democrats! — Johnny Shelton

Wow!
You have taught me what love really is, not words but actions helping others.
Thank you all so much!
Whatever your religious faith or if you have no religion, I want to wish each and every one of you the best, in this time of year for celebration and reflection.

What a great off election year we have had. More folks turned out for events than any of us expected and the promise is that we will pass on to you all the opportunities that come up to help us get Democrats elected. We have had so much fun it hasn’t been work at all. Choose what you will to help, and pass on the rest. As you know by now I ask for volunteers. I don’t do direct fundraises although I do ask for specific help for the ActionList Volunteers to accomplish a specific goal, such as candy, beads, and occasionally printed material or help getting it so we can distribute information as volunteers. I try only to send information in E-mails already designed to ask for volunteers. I will continue to try and not overwhelm you with too many E-mails. As November approaches of course there will be more. ActionList is important and I promise not to abuse it. Please don’t touch that remote, and stay tuned.
To get more involved consider attending one of our several Democratic Clubs.

Yellow Dog Democrat
A yeller daug kant hunt. I would rather vote for a yellow dog than a Republican.
In that vain I cannot help any candidate while that candidate is lending he’s/her name to a Republican while we have a Democrat running for that office. That is the standard for the lowest elected office (precinct chair) so I cannot see holding higher office seekers and anyone we hire with our Democratic Party Funds to a lesser standard. If you disagree that is your right and I will respect that so please respect my point of view.
